Marine Science and Technology
We measure and model ocean currents on scales from metres to ocean basins, and we build the hardware and software behind it.
Ocean Currents on All Scales
Each method covers a different spatial scale. TIDE combines the results in one view.

CopterCurrents
Service - 10 m to 1 km
Using a method developed by Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, we measure surface currents on rivers and estuaries from drone video, based on the wave dispersion relation. We deliver a georeferenced report.
X-Band Radar
Service - 100 m to 5 km
Using a method developed by Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, we provide consulting, signal processing, and software to derive surface currents and wave spectra from marine X-band radar image sequences.
HF Radar
Service - 1 km to 200 km
We provide consulting, signal processing, and software to derive ocean currents from HF radar data.
Lagrangian Drifters
Product - 1 km to ocean basin
Satellite-tracked surface drifters with data service. Deployed for ocean current measurements, HF radar calibration, fisheries research, and ocean races including The Ocean Race Europe 2025.
